Real Heroes

By Cecilia Legister

There are heroes among us but you may never know them
They keep crying for justice and get angry quite often
Like Bogle the warrior who burnt a courthouse down
And Moses the liberator who killed at a frown

So you want a hero for your celebration of fools
And he must fit the description of an upholder of rules
But who will you choose to take up that challenge today
For your courthouses are worse than they were yesterday

A  man when angry speaks the language of his soul
But he can get killed for this crime you call afoul
Or at best he is set to rot in small stinking coops
And must wait it out painfully as you merrily loop the loops

Your wages is death but some find a way of escape
For others it’s a jungle and scrape they must scrape
And alas for those heroes who live in zinc mansions
You batter and kill them with your bloodletting sanctions

And a mother’s cry is drowned by the CCN news
That the police killed seven caught in a ruse
But you forgot to arrest the root of your corruption
And so a generation will rise with a vengeful mission

But there comes a day when God’s children will be free
For the righteous shall cover the earth as does water the sea
So keep holding up those placards for all the world to see
Keep hope for justice alive show up police brutality!
