Dear Mr Jesus - Please don't let them hurt your children!

I was overcome with several emotions a week ago when I was told about the case of a ten year old girl, an alleged  victim of  attempted rape, who was stabbed in the neck as she slept in her bed.
The incident took place on Georges Lane in Downtown Kingston and the Central Kingston Police are investigating. This, like many other incidents that I have witnessed in these gritty communities go unreported for various reasons.

After hearing about the incident, I could not sit still. I decided to visit the little girl at home. I walked past a small gathering at the front of the tenement dwelling and climbed a rickety stairway to get to her. She had just been discharged from the Bustamante Hospital for Children and was resting in bed, a large white bandaged displayed at the side of her neck. As she hugged her Teddy Bear for comfort, the picture overwhelmed me and I began to speak. I had just vented in the yard on my way up and it was a heartfelt declaration that seemed to hit home. This time I spoke to her parents. I told them not to accept this kind of barbarism in their community. I have never heard of such an incident in that area before and it proved that times indeed are becoming more and more serious everyday as it concerns our children.

My decision to intervene was approved by the Master Himself and I felt empowered by Him as I spoke. I referred to his declaration in Matthew 18:10 that no one should harm any of these little ones as their angels are always before the face of God in Heaven, I asked the child's mother to petition God to ask those angels to intervene on this child's behalf so that justice will be done. Right now I am thanking God that the beasts did not carry out their depraved act and further petitioning Him to keep all the children safe under his wings.
