Fear God, honour the King!

The recent visit to the island of Jamaica by US President Barack Hussein Obama has been recorded as one of the country's most historic event. Euphoria was the order of the day as  the world's most revered and influential human being was gracing our shores.  I, too almost got carried away and had to constantly remind  myself that the president was a mere human allowed to sit in a most privileged position.

Now mind you, I will not go as far as entertainer Chronix did by using dishonourable terms to refer to the honourable President because he is a man deserving of honour.  However I chose to gauge my emotions and was sober enough to view the mass hysteria that pervaded the general atmosphere. Persons waited for hours just to catch a glimpse of the charismatic leader while others just wanted to see his "Beast" that  he was being transported in.

If I learned one thing from this experience it is this:  man was created to give reverence - it is intrinsic and cannot be ignored.  However reverence given to any other than the Creator is idolatry and hurts God. He states in. Isaiah 42:8 I am the Lord that is my name and my glory I will not give to another...

I have taken heed to my Master's words and will only bow and worship Him and Him alone. In the meantime I will continue to honour those deserving of honour and love my fellowmen despite their stations in this life.
