But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. Isaiah 43 verse 1
Every now and again I see and hear things that minister to my spirit and so I am moved to glorify God because I know He is speaking to me. This morning was one such occasion as I prepared my sick child to take to the doctor.
I wanted him to have a choice as to where he goes for medical care and so I asked him: "Do you want to go to the Children's Hospital?"
"No." I want to go to to the doctor that says, 'Tariq'." He said.
He said nothing else but then and there a scenario was created in my mind. The Children's Hospital is one of the most impersonal and unfriendly places I have ever been to. The regimental and sometimes cold attitude of the staff can sometimes be so offensive that it makes me feel fearful for my child's well-being. The last time I visited I was made to wait for several hours before finally being given a signed release after begging for it for almost an hour. I had to take my child to another medical facility as I knew he was seriously ill and not one member of staff knew when a doctor would be available. That event has since caused me to be quite wary of the Children's Hospital.
At around the same time I was losing confidence in my family doctor whom I had known for over thirty years. I just opted to change him one day for a kind, elderly and friendly doctor. As a matter of convenience I also started taking my young son to see him. Just recently when we made an office visit, the affable Nigerian man paused to speak with Tariq. He addressed him by name and asked him a few questions about himself. I could sense that my child was very comfortable with this man. This allowed him to be examined without any fuss. After a few days, the doctor called to check up on Tariq to ensure that he was getting better.
Like this kind physician our Lord has all these attributes and more and that is the reason I have chosen to follow Him. He knew us even before we were born and even while we were in our mothers' womb. Oh such wonderful assurance.
Now because He knows me by name, whenever I hear Him call I will make sure to answer Him.
I am also assured of answered prayers as He is always with me.
The doctor also analogizes the healing we are sure to receive when stay in God's presence. How good to know that He offers us this opportunity to be called by name and also to walk in paths He has made clear for us.
